Hi Everyone,

Zucchinis at Heavy Rock Farmwe would like to introduce ourselves – Heavy Rock Farm – a certified A grade organic farm run by Allan, Wendy and family. We have run our small hobby farm of 7 hectares, on the Severn River south of Stanthorpe, for the past 15 years.

Our crops are seasonal vegetables, such as garlic, zucchinis, butter beans and snow peas, and unlike non-organic farms, we do not use any plastics or chemicals to curtail weeds or insects. Companion planting is one way to overcome this, also the use of a large area bug zapper, and mowing / whipper snipping between the rows of vegetables.

We practice seed saving and also grow our own garlic from cloves saved from the previous year. When the plants have finished, we plough them back into the soil. Just as they provide nutrients to humans, they provide to the soil.

At the moment [week 7 2011] we are picking zucchini, and we will have butter beans in the next week or so. We have just planted rows of corn and snow peas as well. Heavy Rock Farm is pleased to become a part of the Food Connect family.
